LThe IPL record for the most sixes in an inning (21), which was uncannily set on this day
in 2013, was briefly in jeopardy of being broken. Just three runs separated Chennai
Super Kings from that milestone, but they still amassed a record first-innings total at
Eden Gardens because to heroic performances from Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube,
and Devon Conway.
In the first three overs, Kolkata Knight Riders lost two wickets, and for a large portion of their chase, they were forced to play catch-up. They eventually faltered to their fourth straight defeat. With five victories in seven games, MS Dhoni’s squad is presently in first place, two points ahead of a tie between five teams with eight points each

KKR stumble early
In the opening over of the chase, Narine performed an off-stump cartwheel, and in the
second, N Jagadeesan was dismissed because of Ravindra Jadeja’s agility. Then,
Moeen Ali and Jadeja hit in back-to-back overs after powerful swings from Venkatesh
Iyer and Nitish Rana. After sweeping a full ball, Rana pulled a slog sweep to Gaikwad at
deep midwicket, and Venkatesh was out leg before wicket
Sri Lankan flavour to finish
Roy continued in striking out. However, Maheesh Theekshana was out off the third ball
to a full delivery that dipped and slid underneath his strong swing after taking him for
two fours to start the 15th over. The win percentage for KKR was less than 1% even
after all that sorcery
You could tell the game was gone when Matheeshan Pathirana, a teammate of
Theekshana’s from Sri Lanka, sent back Andre Russell two overs later. And so it turned
out, in spite of everything Rinku Singh accomplished on the other end to achieve his
own half-century.
CSK 235 for 4 (Conway 56, Rahane 71, Dube 50, Khejroliya 2-44) beat KKR 186 for
8 (Rinku 53, Roy 61, Theekshana 2-32, Deshpande 2-44) by 49 runs
